Having helped build several companies, almost from the ground up, along with working for multi-billion-dollar public companies, gives us the insight and knowledge to know what needs to be in place for sustainable growth. We help establish corporate structure, governance, policies & procedures as the foundation for well vetted business/strategic growth plans.
We also help develop reliable financials, sales forecasting, marketing plans, budgets and competitive and market analysis. In addition, we offer guidance on legal compliance, HR, revenue cycle and training ...… all of the components necessary to build a succesful company.
Business Development: Corporate leadership, structure and planning are only part of what we offer our clients. The reality is that our ultimate goal is on business development and strategy execution. Having an innovative idea and a well-structured company is nothing without good old fashion SALES and operating capital.
With over 35 years in healthcare, we have built an extensive network of well-established relationships and distributor networks that provides us unprecedented access to industry experts and professionals.
In addition, our network spans into professional services, where specific expertise is required and prudent. In a highly regulated, and often complex market having access to industry experts can be critical to making the correct decisions. This would include, legal, regulatory compliance, accounting, FDA, payer relations, national accounts and clinical experts. This also includes access to capital, through PE, VC, Family Offices or conventional financing.
Engagement: For many of our clients we assume interim titles of President, COO or VP of Business Development. This allows us the opportunity to leverage our reputation and experience while promoting our client's business. Several of our engagements have evolved into full time positions as the demands for full-time leadership emerges. We are also flexible on how our fees are structured, which could include modest retainers, equity or commission-based bonuses.

SMG's President and CEO, Mr. David Potenza, leads the company with over 35 years of executive leadership, sales/marketing management and business strategy experience focused on providong better healthcare and innovation. Mr. Potenza has spent 20+ years of his career working (and learning from) two Fortune 100 healthcare companies, where he held senior leadership and business developement management positions. The remainder of his career has been spent working with and leading start-up organizations, which in total have sold for over $1.3 billion in equity transactions.
Along with experience, he has also received extensive, formalized training and mentorship, providing him invaluable experience in marketing, manufacturing, compliance and the ever changing economics of our healthcare system.
Working with well established multi-billion dollar companies all the way to one office start-ups, offers SMG's clients a diverse set of skills and perspective on starting, managing and growing a business (or good idea) into a company.
With a new era, often referred to as Healthcare Reform, and with the passing of the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act in 2010, the healthcare market saw a tectonic shift in how healthcare was going to be delivered (POC clinics, out-patient, telemedicine), but more importantly, how it was going to get paid for (Capitation, Exchanges, quality metrics). New payment models began to emerge as we continued to move away from a fee-for-service methodology to paying (rewarding) for delivering higher quality and better outcomes with fewer mistakes. (more)
